The course shall provide experience with and competence in practising, creating and presenting dance in relation to various spaces and stagecrafts elements, contexts and audience strategies. Students will gain insight into various approaches to artistic research and development through encounters with choreographers, educators, composers and other creative artists, and shall through process-related work develop their abilities to structure relevant movement material and be able to give artistic form to this material. The course may include the development of new artistic works and the rehearsal of an existing repertoire. Collaborations with other students at the Academy are an integral part of the course.
The course also provides insight into the dancer’s professional role and questions of professional ethics as well as an understanding of finances, infrastructure and various actors in the national and international field of dance.
The course emphasises the dancer as the initiator of his or her own activity and/or collaborations through knowledge of for example project planning, application writing and network building.
Læringsutbytte for emnet
Upon completing the course, students shall
- be able to relate the project and performance practices to the field’s history and traditions and to recent tendencies within the performing arts
- have gained insight into production processes, planning and execution
- be able to work creatively and constructively with their partners and learn to recognize and respect their own role in artistic processes and collective projects
- be able to create, practise and present the art of dance at an independent and high level, in various spaces and contexts
- be able to relate to musical and stagecraft elements in project and performance practice
- be able to relate to questions of professional ethics and reflect on the requirements and expectations a dance artist faces
Undervisning og læringsformer
The course’s working methods may include teacher-led instruction, supervision and independent work. It may include practical exercises and showings, creative assignments, lectures, independent study, project work and written assignments. The course’s teaching, progression and aims are adapted to the student group’s composition.
The course requirements are
- mandatory attendance and active participation in the course
- completion of course assignments throughout the course
Vurdering
All course requirements must be approved in order for a student to receive a final course assessment.
The student’s coursework will be assessed on an ongoing basis. The ongoing assessment is based on supervision, teacher assessments and the student’s own reflection on his or her professional development in relation to the learning outcomes.
In addition to the ongoing assessments, the student’s artistic results will be assessed separately during performances. This assessment will be made by the given educator/choreographer and the programme coordinator.
The course is graded pass/fail.
