Collage – Montage in relation to Diaspora culture

Monday the 23th of September at 13:00 are we starting up a mini-series with artist talks, which will take place at the textile print workshop at KHiO. The presentation is part of an ongoing workshop titled: Collage – Montage in relation to Diaspora culture. The workshop is part of Textile Lab titled: Materiality and narrative.

Becay

First artist to come is the Oslo based composer and guitar player Becay Alodioum Aw. Becay has his roots of Fulani people; he is raised up in Senegal where he started up his carrier. He is mainly self-taught as a musician; known for his unique guitar-playing while his Music has been described as West African blues with a personal expression that combines older traditions and contemporary music. His first award-winning solo album with self-composed music and own lyrics, SIBI, won the Folkelarmprisen 2009 in the category "crossover".

Becaye has collaborated with a number of artists, including Baaba Maal (Senegal), Ali Farka Toure (Mali), Oddrun Lilja Jonsdottir, Sidiki Camara, Åsmund Skutterud, Haddy N'jie, Steinar Ofsdal, Kouame Sereba, Anne Hytta, Liv Ulvik, Sigrun Eng, Helge Norbakken, Carl Petter Opsahl, Olav Torget, Unni Løvlid, Rolf-Erik Nystrøm and Poing, Solfrid Molland, Malika Makouf Rasmussen and Women's Voice (International), Ablaye Cissoko (Senegal), Nordic Black Theater, Geir Lysne, Harald Skullerud , Bogdan Loebl (Poland). Becaye has performed at festivals and school tours around the country and has performed in most European countries as well as China, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Zanzibar and Tanzania. He has also been a festival artist for Global Nights # 7 in May-June 2019, with the commissioning work "Diaspora", Masterclass and opening concert at Sentralen in Oslo.

Ordering works: 2019 «Diaspora» for Global Oslo Music in relation to Global Nights # 7, and as Festival Artist 2013 «Off Road» for Global Oslo Music 2008 Tones of poetry for Olav O. Hauge, with Unni Løvlid and Rolf-Erik Nystrøm.
