Art and Craft Lectures: Grant Watson
Grant Watson, curator and researcher based in London, will hold a lecture about his interest in textiles, which has been developed through an extensive series of curated projects.
Grant Watson has in his projects looked at textiles as they appear as a medium in the context of fine art practice, as well as the link between the production and trade in cloth and social and political movements. Exhibition projects have also explored the question of how to install fabrics and relate them to other materials in order to integrate cloth into a larger cultural discussion.
Grant Watson is a curator and researcher based in London. He is co-curator of Migrant Bauhaus a large scale project exploring the school’s international reception to mark its centenary in 2019. Other current activities include the filmed interview series How We Behave commissioned by If I Can’t Dance, exhibited with IICD in Amsterdam, the Showroom, London, Nottingham Contemporary, MIMA, Middlesbrough, State of Concept, Athens, the Whitechapel Gallery, London and Extra City, Antwerp. Past projects include Practice International and Tagore Pedagogy and Contemporary Visual Cultures both of which addressed historical and contemporary cosmopolitanism. Watson is a tutor at the Royal College of Art and has a PhD in Visual Cultures from Goldsmiths College, London.

Welcome to this new series of cross-disciplinary lectures at the Art and Craft department. This lecture series highlights the breadth and depth of the art practices that the Art and Craft department encompasses. Each lecture will feature current issues pertaining to and spanning the five areas: Art and Public Space, Textile, Ceramics, Print and Drawing, Metal- and Jewellery Art.
