Art & Craft Lectures: Damla Kilickiran: How to Make an Image Disappear
In this talk, Damla Kilickiran will invite you into reflections related to her practice on alternate states of being as a method for image production and knowledge. We will delve into the strangeness of alterity as a somatic and imaginal process, threshold experiences evoked during practise, panpsychism and the need for unknown languages.
Damla Kilickiran graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo in 2020 and is currently creating an artwork for KORO, that will unfold at the new government quarter in Olso. She has exhibited at Sandefjord Kunstforening (2025), Lunds Konsthall (2025), the 8th Yokohama Triennale (2024), at Bergen Kunsthall (2022), Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (GIBCA); UKS, Oslo (both 2021); Destiny’s Atelier, Oslo (2020); Lofoten International Art Festival (2019).
The Art and Craft Lectures is an annual lecture series devoted to art education, research, theory, and politics. The program, curated by Sara R. Yazdani and Susanne M. Winterling, nurtures an interdisciplinary exchange of practice and theory.
The Spring 2025 program un/folds connections between materials and bodies. From the perspective of art and craft, we wish to consider the fold as an artistic and academic method and tool to understand materials and their interconnections with machines, bodies, techniques, and space, as well as culture, politics, and affective relations in the world.
Taking a collaborative approach to practice and research, the lecture series seeks to generate inspiration, critical navigation, and community across the arts. It invites scholars, artists, and curators from different disciplines to give a traditional keynotes or conversations that guide the semester, and as a platform for students and faculty to share and discuss practice, concerns, and inspiration, with an open door to the public.
