Avgang 2022: Brennande vatn

Eli Mai Huang Nesse  presenterer sitt avgangsprosjekt i master biletkunst, på Black Box, KHiO.

Ein ukjent skapning skutt i 2006,
ein papegøye som motbeviser alle,
eit bær som berre dreper dei rike
og ein flygande kvalp.

An unfamiliar creature shot in 2006,
a parrot that proves us all wrong,
a berry that only kills the rich
and a flying puppy.

Brennande vatn is an installation made with sound, light and darkness. Welcome to the MFA graduation show from the Academy of Fine Art in Oslo by Eli Mai Huang Nesse.

Soundscape: Jo Mikkel Sjaastad Huse

Eli Mai Huang Nesse is currently enrolled in the master program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo. She holds a bachelor degree in Fine Art from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm and has been on exchange to the Art Academy in Bergen. She has had solo shows at Galleri Slakt (Bergen), K4 (Oslo) Galleri Blunk (Trondheim) and participated in several group shows including R1 Reaktorhallen (Stockholm), ABF-huset (Stockholm) and Høstutstillingen at Kunstnernes Hus (Oslo). She is also part of the theatre performance collaboration «Taking Root» with Hamid Waheed, Kim Reenskaug (WOW SAILOR) and Vilde Jensen that has performed at Open Out (Tromsø) and METEOR international theatre Festival (Bergen).

Is the tomato a vegetable, fruit or a berry? Does it matter? Eli is interested in the ambiguous and contradictory, not knowing if something is sad or funny, good or bad. To make the feeling of ambivalence linger and let something stay unclear or as twilight between opposites. This is portrayed through the use of storytelling, film, performance and installations. Her last video work was about the unwanted gift, how something meant to spread joy can become a burden.
