Art and Craft Lectures: Carolina Caycedo: From the Bottom of The River
From the Bottom of The River is an invitation to unlearn the colonial gaze through processes of solidarity, collaboration, and embodied knowledge; as a means to reposition our perspectives and relationships to nature.
Carolina Caycedo (1978) is London-born Colombian multidisciplinary artist known for her performances, videos, artist’s books, sculptures and installations that examine environmental and social issues. Caycedo has developed publicly engaged projects in major cities across the globe, and held residencies at the DAAD in Berlin, and The Huntington Libraries, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California, among others. She is a 2021-2022 Inaugural Latinx Artist Fellow and 2020-2022 Inaugural Borderlands Fellow at the Center for Imagination in the Borderlands at Arizona State University and the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School.
Art and Craft Lectures is an interdisciplinary annual lecture series devoted to art education and research at the intersection of art practice and theory. It is hosted by the Department of Art and Craft at Oslo National Academy of the Arts and highlights the breadth and depth of the art practices at the department, providing different perspectives on art and craft and art and public space.
The Art and Craft Lectures take place three times each term and are open to everyone interested. Students and Ph.D. candidates are especially encouraged to attend. The Fall 2021 lecture series is convened by Sara R. Yazdani, in dialogue with colleagues at the Department of Art and Craft.
