The Virtual Bar / Verdensrommet & Open Forum

The Virtual Bar / Verdensrommet & Open Forum

Verdensrommet and Open Forum invite you to a virtual bar, an evening of discussions on alternative economies, social housing, immigration and institutions in connection to the economic and social context of non-EU art students and artists living and working in Norway.

Pre-registration is required: Zoom

The bar takes inspiration from the collective legacy of Akers Mek, KHiO’s former student bar. The bar was shut down in 2016 and it was the place to go for art students in search of camaraderie and creative exchange in Oslo.

The virtual bar will reproduce and amplify the historical and metaphysical characteristics of Akers Mek, bringing it temporarily ‘back to life’ whilst generating a vibrant community space for debate. DJ interventions, a main host/moderator:Frankie D Miedo who will intercept critical discussions, and three breakout rooms:

*Flexible Economies
*Social Housing + alt spaces of production of art and friendships
*Immigration and Art Institutions

Important information
The first edition of The Virtual Bar is a participatory event, with maximum capacity for 20 participants. Please register and include your preference over one of the breakout rooms: Flexible economies, Social housing, or Immigration and art institutions.
We kindly invite you to write on the registration, a question that will be addressed with everyone during the session. All questions will be anonymous.

After your registration you will receive a link and further details to access this digital event.

Open Forum

Open Forum is a student-run initiative from the Academy of Fine Art in Oslo, that seeks to create a meaningful exchange of ideas, a dynamic space for dialogue and debate within the academy, the art scene, and a wider panorama. As a nomadic organism, Open Forum takes different shapes, from lectures to performative events.

Verdensrommet

Verdensrommet is a mutual support network (140+ artists) grounded in solidarity among global diasporic artists in Norway, specifically from non-EU/EEA countries. It is a call to self-organize, to reach out to each other, to develop infrastructures for mutual-aid, and to use our joint forces to overcome precarity and immigration uncertainty.
When social benefits and welfare assistance is made inaccessible under immigrant residency permits, then critical research and new solidarity economies become urgently necessary. Verdensrommet stands for fair immigration policies, better living and working conditions, and encourage new imaginations of the future of artists’ work. Verdensrommet addresses such urgent migratory, socio-economic, and labor concerns of non-EU/EEA artists through advocacy, guidance, and network-building.
