Fredrik Staum Floen

Fredrik Floen (b. 1988, Bergen) is an artist and designer based in Oslo/Blaker. Working at the intersection of experimental fashion and costume design, his practice spans textiles, books, performance, scenography, drawing, and sculpture. Floen is an Associate Professor at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts since 2025, where he heads the BA programme in Clothing and Costume Design. His artistic research and practice explore a vibrant yet melancholic visual universe, characterised by colourful maximalism and an interest in self-sabotage, human error, overloads, and visual culture. Through clothing, bodies, and visual expression, he investigates how new meanings and dramaturgies can emerge.

His work has been presented at venues including the MUNCH Museum, Black Box theatre, Palais de Tokyo, Stamsund Teaterfestival, Dansens Hus, Betty Nansen, Burgtheater and Stockholm City Theatre. In 2023, he represented Norway at the Prague Quadrennial. By challenging established frameworks and modes of production, Floen seeks to develop alternative approaches to experimental fashion and performance design, opening for new possibilities for exploring and reimagining silhouettes, materials, and ideas.
