✅Before You Start: Checklist

1. Activate Your IT Account

You need an IT account to access KHiO's digital services, including Studentweb, Canvas and your student email account.

You can activate your account as soon as you receive an email from KHiO with instructions. This email is sent to new students at the beginning of August and also includes information about semester registration and the semester fee.

Do you have a Norwegian national identity number?

  • Go to https://selvbetjening.khio.no/#/
  • Click "Activate account"
  • Enter your surname and national identity number
  • You will receive a verification code by SMS

Do you not have a Norwegian national identity number?

Please note: It may take up to 24 hours before your account works across all systems.


2. Complete Semester Registration and Pay the Semester Fee

To register as a student, you must:

  • complete semester registration in Studentweb
  • pay the semester fee
  • confirm your individual study plan
  • register for teaching and examinations

What is Studentweb?

Studentweb is the student portal where you manage your studies. Here you complete semester registration, register for courses and examinations, and update your study plan. 

Log in using the username and password you created when activating your IT account. 

Deadlines:

  • Autumn semester: 1 September
  • Spring semester: 1 February

What is Canvas? 

Canvas is KHiO's digital learning platform. Once you have completed your semester registration and registered for teaching, you will gain access to your courses in Canvas. 


3. Upload a Photo for Your Student Card

As a KHiO student, you will receive a student card that serves as: 

  • your student ID card
  • an access card for KHiO buildings and workspaces
  • a library card
  • a card for printing and photocopying services

  • You can collect your student card from the Service Desk at the start of the semester
  • Please bring valid photo identification. 

4. Download the Student ID app

The Student ID app confirms that you are registered as a student.

You can use the app as proof of student status with organisations such as SiO (the Student Welfare Organis of Oslo and Akershus) and on public transport.

Your digital student ID will  be activated automatically once you have:

  • paid the semester fee
  • completed your semester registration

Please allow 3–5 working days for your registration status to be updated in the system. 

The app is available from the App Store and Google Play.


5. Complete Mandatory Fire Safety Training

All students must complete fire safety training.

Go to Branntest  to complete the training.

The code must be entered in capital letters.

Accomodation

By the start of the semester there is great demand for student housing. It is therefore important to apply for accommodation as soon as you have received a study offer.

Student Housing

Students at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts may apply for student accomodation at SiO (the Student Welfare Organisation in Oslo).

All questions regarding the application form and housing in general must be directed to SiO Housing.

Private accomodation

Students may also apply for private accommodation.

Do you have any questions concerning your start of studies?

Contact the student adviser at your study programme. Write “Student Adviser” in the search field, and you will get the contact information for your student adviser. Under the name is information about which department the study adviser is associated with.

Oslo National Academy of the Arts has six departments, and there are one or two study advisers associated with each department. If you are admitted to, for example, the bachelor’s programme of Medium- and Material based art, you should contact the study adviser at Art and Craft.
