New Professor Presentations: Irena Haiduk, Anton Kats and Oscar Lara

Please join The Academy of Fine Art in welcoming our three new professors taking up their positions this year: Irena Haiduk, Anton Kats and Oscar Lara. Each artist will present their work, followed by a joint Q&A and conversation.

The event is open to all. Light refreshments will be served. This event is hosted by the Academy of Fine Art´s public program. 


Irena Haiduk
Irena Haiduk directs Yugoexport—a blind and non-aligned oral corporation powering production of books, apparel, orations, variable spaces, and films. Haiduk's first feature film, Nula, is coming out in 2028.

Anton Kats Anton Kats (b. 1983, Kherson, Ukraine) is an artist, musician, and educator based in Berlin. His practice draws from the everyday and works across sound, music, performance, installation, radio, film, and publishing. Motivated by questions of agency and intentionality, Kats works through collaboration, long-term research, and the development of listening infrastructures. Approaching listening as a generative practice through which social and political imagination is rehearsed, he refers to this trajectory as Sonic Antifascism. His work has been presented at documenta 14, Tate Modern, the Berlin Biennale, SAVVY Contemporary, Serpentine Galleries, Bergen Kunsthall, steirischer herbst, and Sonic Acts, among others. Kats is Associate Professor of Sonic and Listening Practices at the Academy of Fine Art, Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO).

Oscar Lara
Oscar Lara, born in 1977 in Lima, Peru, is a contemporary visual artist currently based between Stockholm and Lima. His work focuses on social practices that explore decolonial strategies and the re-contextualization of ethnographic materials. Lara is particularly known for his engagement with the cultural politics of power and representation, often using his art to challenge and critique colonial histories.

Lara’s practice spans various media, including textiles, archival material, video, and performance, and his exhibitions have been held at venues such as the Central Museum of Textiles in Lodz, Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI), Tensta Konsthall in Stockholm and the Museum of World Culture in Gothenburg. His PhD for the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, researched the boundaries on the intersection of art, politics, and history. His projects engage deeply with themes of cultural heritage, repatriation, and the broader implications of colonialism in contemporary art contexts.
