Avgang 2026: Franciska Eliassen / Dear Darkening Ground

Dear Darkening Ground is Franciska’s MFA graduation show where relationships between the underworld, soil, myths and the subconscious are explored through sound, sculpture, textile and video.

Dear darkening ground,
you’ve endured so patiently the walls we’ve built;
perhaps you’ll give the cities one more hour
and grant the churches and cloisters two.
And those who labor—let their work
grip them another five hours, or seven
before you become forest again,
and widening wilderness
in that hour of inconceivable terror
when you take back your name
from all things.
Just give me a little more time!
I want to love the things
as no one has thought to love them,
until they’re real and ripe and worthy of you.

— Rainer Maria Rilke, The Book of Hours l 61, Translated by Joanna Macy

She holds a BA from Nordland School of Art and Film, combined with studies in philosophy at the University of Oslo. Her feature film Den siste våren received widespread international recognition, including prices at the Locarno Film Festival and the Amanda Awards. Franciska was awarded the Nordic Film Prize in 2024. Her short films Søster and Blue Borders – A Letter from Moria premiered at Høstutstillingen in 2019. Another notable work is a hut made of soil and driftwood that she built in the mountains. She lived there for one and a half years, before opening it to the public.
