Marta Kubiak / I Put On The Evil

Marta Kubiak / I Put On The Evil

Exhibition with Marta Kubiak at White Box, KHiO.

Marta Kubiak is a graduate of the Faculty of Graphics and Media Art at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, Poland where she received her Master’s degree in graphic design and graphic arts. Professionally associated with her alma mater since 2009, she currently works as an assistant professor and heads the Serigraphy Studio. In 2017, she received a PhD in Art. She specializes in printmaking, with a particular focus on the technique of serigraphy, as well as in graphic design.

In her artistic practice, she addresses the issue of the anthropology of everyday life, commenting on reality and reflecting on the dualism of good and evil, basing her work primarily on her own drawn and photographic materials.
Recently, she has also incorporated existing objects—found road signs and enameled functional objects—which she utilizes as a substrate for printing. The imperfection of these mediums—their distortion, rust, and damage—becomes an integral part of the final works, reinforcing the content that she overprints onto them.

An awareness of anthropogenic changes in the natural environment and continuous exposure to distressing reports evoke a sense of discomfort in her. Consequently, in her latest works, she expresses disappointment with the surrounding reality. The figure of the devil, which personifies negative emotions and universal evil, has thus emerged naturally within them. She explores various representations of this character, from primitive drawings to reinterpretations of existing imagery, leaving space for viewers to reflect.

Meeting with the artist: Tuesday, 28 October, 13:00–15:00, White Box Gallery.
