An Invitation into the Somatic Costume Dressing Room
This one-to-one performance is an invitation into a costume sensorium, a performative journey exploring the relationship between your body and materials. Developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its restrictions on human touch, this artistic approach draws from over 85 guided sessions with international participants.
In the Somatic Costume Dressing Room, you will be guided with care to bring attention to your internal, felt experience. Through gentle and attentive touch, you will explore the tangible qualities of different materials as a costume is co-created with yourself, the wearer, the materials, and myself as a guide, live in the moment.
The process is guided by your body's specific psychophysical needs—such as a desire for comfort, rest, or connection—rather than a preconceived visual design. This artistic approach asks a fundamental question: How do we create a costume based on what it feels like to wear it, instead of what it looks like?
This public event is a key part of my final PhD assessment and artistic research: The Somatic Costume Dressing Room: Choreographing Attention through Touch & the Poetic.
