Utstillingen viser resultatet av PhD-stipendiat Bjørn Jørund Blikstad sitt kunstneriske utviklingsarbeid ved avdeling design, Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo.
Skapornamentikk / Ornamentskap
Prosjektet søker ornamentets betydning gjennom treskjæring, skapsnekring og skriving – på verkstedet og i skrivestuen, som hver åpner for ulike måter å være i verden på. Prosjektet lanserer ornamentalt begjær som et begrep som vil forene. Det konkrete ornamentets oppgave er, derimot, tenkt å skulle holde en vedheft mellom de forskjellige måtene å være i verden på – som ikke forener – men bekrefter ulikhetene mellom dem ved å insistere på å være noe helt eget.
Her synes ornamentet å kunne fungere som en nøkkel til å arbeide med det komplekse samspillet mellom det abstrakte og det konkrete, og det pågående i både praktisk-estetisk og teoretisk forstand. Prosjektet forsøker å overbevise om at en oppdatert forståelse av ornamentets rolle kan åpne for en håndfast og leken utforskning av metafysiske relasjoner som en nødvendig aktør i mellomrommet mellom alle disse posisjonene – også mellom det moderne, det tradisjonelle, det gamle, det fremtidige, og det samtidige.

The project seeks the meaning of ornament through wood carving, cabinet carpentry and writing – in the workshop and in the writing room, each of which reveals different ways of being-in-the-world. The project launches ornamental desire as a concept that wants to unite. The task of the actual ornament, however, is intended to act as an adhesive construct between the different ways of being-in-the-world – which does not unite – but confirms the differences between them by insisting on being something else.
Here, the ornament seems to be able to function as a key to working with the complex interplay between the abstract and the concrete, and the ongoing in both a practical-aesthetic and theoretical sense. The project tries to convince that an updated understanding of the role of ornament can open up for a tangible and playful exploration of metaphysical relations as a necessary actor in the space between all these positions – also between the modern, the traditional, the old, the future, and the contemporary.
The experience that the text I write can push myself out of the closet I have created and that the closet can push me out of the text I have produced, is an experience that I think has something to offer.
