Performance

Avgang 2025: Antonia Harke / Avenue

The performance is Antonia Harke’s graduation project in master dance at KHiO.

It's very hot here…as I am walking down an avenue… as I am walking down an avenue… as I am walking down an avenue…a weightless sensation…

An avenue where you arrive and where you look beyond. An avenue where you run away, overwhelmed by the sounds and the endless flow and a seemingly never-ending line, before turning sideways, where you meet someone, where you rest for a moment in a suddenly appearing corner, while the whispers and fragments of conversation pass you by.

The solo dance performance Avenue explores the intersections of movement, language, and sound. Emerging from the imagination of a dreamy GTA cityscape of Vienna, it unfolds through voice, gesture, sound, and dance, presenting a body that utters and crumbles. The moving body holds layers: memories, sensations, emotions, and forgotten traces of past movements. What happens when we begin to unpack a body like the contents of a bag? Avenue questions what is carried, left behind, and how movement can mask and reveal.

Antonia Harke works with dance, choreography, sound, and text. Her practice explores the vocal, sensory, and fleshy aspects of the human body. Avenue was developed in close collaboration with dramaturg Nora Frizzi Auerbach through a shared writing process and an online artistic diary. Antonia is also part of the sound duo Der Mohn, collaborating with sound artist and composer Jean-Louis Huhta, with whom she created the soundscape for Avenue.
