Traces#5 – Akerselva

Traces#5 Akeselva is a cyclical ritual of start-end, arrival-departure, openness-enclosure through spiral temporalities.

Meeting point: KHiO’s reception
Practical info: The performance takes place outdoors. Dress according to the weather.

Traces is a durational project started in 2020 in collaboration with the visual artist Hilde Grønner Flikke. Traces is a performance, an ongoing installation, a score and a non-conventional documentation. Branco moves backwards while Flikke draws, makes poetic notes, and registers the time of the performance’s traces.

Starting her PhD during the COVID lockdown, Fernanda Branco ritualised this beginning by walking backwards from KHiO’s top floor, down the corridors, stairs, leaving from the entrance door. Branco ends her PhD by walking backwards from the river, up the outside stairs, and entering KHiO’s main door.

A juxtaposition of beginnings and ends, moving forward and back in reversed temporalities, ritualising starting and ending processes in dialogue with a spiral approach to time. Branco’s PhD traces backwards a start from inside out and an end from outside in the Art Academy.

Traces has been part of the PhD Artistic Research environment embodiment – towards poetic narratives by Fernanda Branco (2020-2024). https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/2785084/2904999
