Conversation/debate
Catherine Opie / Walls, Windows and Blood
Artist talk with Catherine Opie, led by artist and Professor Susanne M. Winterling, KHiO.
The exhibition Walls, Windows and Blood will showcase Catherine Opie’s latest powerful suite of photographs to the public for the first time in Scandinavia. The exhibition will feature a carefully curated selection of pieces from the artist’s three most recent series: Blood Grids, Walls, and Windows. These exceptional collections were conceived and captured during Opie’s 2021 artist residency at the American Academy in Rome. With this body of work, Opie applies a distinctly American voice, both artistically and politically, to some of the deepest entrenched concepts of a powerful entity like the Catholic Church.
To complement the opening of the exhibition, an artist talk will take place in the gallery on Thursday, January 18. Peder Lund looks forward to welcoming you to a conversation with Catherine Opie, led by artist and Professor Susanne M. Winterling from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
The talk is free and open to all.
Susanne M. Winterling
Since 2022, Winterling has served as a professor and program coor dinator for the master's program in medium and material-based art at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Before this, she held po sitions at art academies in both Trondheim, Oslo, and in Offenbach, Germany. In her own art practice, Susanne M. Winterling works across var ious media, including film, pho tography, sculpture, and perfor mance. Her practice emphasizes what pure information and form leave out, with a sensual approach to media and material informed by an understanding of immersion and power as energy flows. Emphasiz ing the enhancement of percep tual and critical consciousness, Winterling undertakes affective and material-based research that highlights the subjective interaction between producers, viewers, materials, and species in our ecology. She has contributed to a large number of exhibitions internationally, most recently the opening ex hibition EMOTIONS ARE OCEANS at RADIUS Center for Contemporary Art and Ecology and the current Postscript of Silence at the Ming Contemporary Art Museum.
