Costume Agency Workshop # 5, #6 and #7

24 costumes + 12 designers + 12 performers + 12 days + 6 stages + technicians and reference group = 12 performances with costume as a starting point.

The project posts updates on Instagram of the work of each of the 12 designers: https://www.instagram.com/costumeagencyresearch/

Costume Agency is an artistic research project hosted by Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
The project researches the agency of costume in performance and how costume can generate or be a centre of gravitation in performance.

The research is primarily approached in workshops led by costume designers, which pursue the vision embedded in the garment. The workshop format follows a set format that involves four designers and four performers for rehearsals, over a period of twelve days of explorations, dialogue and development. The final presentations will be filmed and documented by photography. There will be eight workshops in total and approximately thirty sketches for possible performances, starting with costumes.

Costume Agency project (August 2018 to March 2022) is an internationally broad-based research, with partners as Aalto University in Helsinki and The Performing Arts Academy in Prague (DAMU). The main researchers are Christina Lindgren (Oslo National Academy of the Arts) and Sodja Lotker (The Performing Arts Academy in Prague). Lotker and Lindgren hosted the event Critical Costume 2020 Conference and Exhibition, that created a common platform for academic and artistic reflection on the field of costume.

Costume Agency is supported by the Norwegian Artistic Research Program (NARP) / Norwegian Agency for International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement in Higher Education (DIKU). NARP has national responsibility for promoting and stimulating artistic research in Norway.
