Brief course description

The course focuses on issues related to the production and realization of art projects in public space. It addresses the relation between pragmatic and conceptual challenges and how these influence each other during the process of developing an artistic project. The course also touches on technical, organizational, financial, plan-related and legal aspects of artistic production in public space, all with the aim of equipping the student to carry out art projects in public contexts such that they can ultimately be experienced by the public.

The course’s learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student will:

  • have insight into various types of artistic production within different types of public situations
  • have acquired technical skills for producing art in public space
  • have acquired competence necessary for planning and organizing an art project in public space

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures, independent work/self-chosen artistic project, presentations, discussions, excursions, group work and practical workshops The course includes an introduction to practical tools and methods, for example, architectural drawing and planning tools, software and the like. Most of the teaching is group-based.

The course will also make use of other resources in the Department for Art and Craft such as workshops, media labs and so forth.

Coursework requirements:

It is assumed that the student will participate actively in discussions, complete all assignments and submit written/practical assignments and/or presentations. There is an 80 percent attendance requirement for all teaching.

Assessment

Coursework requirements must be met. The course is evaluated on the basis of the student’s presentation of his/her own work in a plenary session.

The course is graded as pass/fail.
