Theatre- and Project Management
Brief course description
The Theatre and Project Management course provides you with a comprehensive understanding of the world of theatre and project management, emphasizing the significance of theatre in a social, political, and economic context, as well as the impact of evolving cultural policies. You will learn about the skills and knowledge required for theatre and project management, including management theory, planning tools, and budget skills. The course emphasizes strategic management and leadership, as well as the complex dynamics of artistic collaboration and teamwork. You will develop skills to manage your work, contribute to a safe and constructive work environment, and/or reimagine the institutional frameworks of theatre management and production dramaturgy.
The course’s learning outcomes
Upon completing the course, you will:
- Have practical and theoretical knowledge about theatre and project management and be able to utilize a range of methods for planning, implementing and evaluating theatre productions and projects
- Have experience with collective processes and be able to build teams, based on the group's total knowledge, skills, and resources
- Know how to constructively engage in conflict and disagreements, learn how to handle resistance and/or criticism and how to motivate others
- Identify the core goals, clarify expectations, learn methods for decision-making processes and manage resources to achieve high quality results
- Be able to demonstrate an ethically informed understanding of professional production processes and the importance of a safe work environment
Teaching and learning methods
Along with all other students in the Master’s programme in Theatre, you will take classes in a broad range of core subjects. Classes cover all areas of management skills, knowledge and expertise and give a thorough grounding in preparation for the responsibilities to come. Classes are usually related to ongoing projects and wherever possible have a hands-on, practical approach.
The course requirements are
- Mandatory attendance and active participation in the course
- Completed reading
- Submission of written assignments
Assessment
The assessment will consist of practical work, written and oral evaluations. The practical work will be evaluated by the teachers and KHIO staff. You will also be required to engage with an oral evaluation where you will discuss the process and result. The course is graded pass/fail.
