In this course, you will acquire an in-depth theoretical and practical understanding of ensemble work and collective strategies. Designed to equip you with essential skills for effective collaboration, the course concludes with the production of a theatrical piece that will be showcased either at KHIO or in conjunction with a professional theatre company affiliated with the school. By engaging in teamwork, you will refine your artistic capabilities and obtain invaluable hands-on experience in the realm of theatre production. Throughout the process of crafting a theatrical piece, you will learn to communicate proficiently with others, cultivate an artistic vision, and collectively strive towards a shared objective. The course’s learning outcomes
Upon completing the course, you shall be able to:
- Engage in teamwork and collectively produce and develop a theatre production, including research, devising, and staging
- Develop the ability to give and receive constructive feedback and use it to improve collaborative processes and productions
- Identify and utilize ensemble methods and understanding of current critical debates, concepts, and discourse, including diverse cultural and social contexts, in a collaborative theatre process
Teaching and learning methods
In this course, you will engage in a variety of workshops and a final production that allows you to explore different methods of collective creation. You will learn how to evaluate your work in a collective context, while also gaining a deeper understanding of your own artistic practice in your area of specialization.

- A group presentation or performance
- Peer evaluations
- Document where you reflect upon research questions, artistic process and result, as well as your own effort as a team member in the creative process
Documentation will be included in the portfolio, and you will be required to engage in an oral evaluation where you will discuss your work and portfolio with teachers and receive feedback on your collaborative and ensemble skills. The course is graded pass/fail
