KHiO Affected by Security Breach in Canvas
Instructure, the provider of the Canvas learning management system used by KHiO and many other Norwegian educational institutions, has been subjected to a serious security breach.
Nearly all universities and university colleges in Norway use Canvas, and the incident is part of a global security breach affecting more than 9,000 educational institutions worldwide.
Based on information from Instructure to date, unauthorized parties have had access to the system, and it is likely that data relating to Norwegian students and staff in the higher education sector may have been compromised.
The information may include:
- Names
- Email addresses
- Student identification numbers
- Messages exchanged between users
The Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO) has notified the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) of the incident and has informed students and staff about the security breach in Canvas.
Be Alert to Fraud Attempts
KHiO asks students and staff to be particularly vigilant regarding potential phishing attempts (efforts to obtain sensitive information) and other forms of fraud in the period ahead. Information that may have been exposed in connection with the security breach could be used in such attempts.
