Markus Degerman

Markus Degerman is an artist whose background is in both fine art and architecture. He studied art at the Royal Institute of Art, the Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design, and Nyckelviksskolan (all in Stockholm) and at the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts. He has previously worked as a professor and section head at the Academy of Arts at the Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø.

Degerman has wide-ranging experience as a curator and exhibitor and from design, theory and teaching. As an artist he has worked a good deal on spatial design in different surroundings such as public areas, urban spaces and art institutions, for example the design and architectural firm Uglycute in Stockholm.

Degerman is currently serving as the chair of the Swedish Research Council’s artistic research committee.

Markus Degerman began working in that capacity as dean at the Art and Craft department in 2019. In 2021-23 he was elected as rector at KHiO.
