Feminist Futures of Spatial Practice
Materialisms, Activisms, Dialogues Pedagogies, Projections
Architecture and the arts have long been at the forefront of socio-spatial struggles, in which equal access, representation and expression are at stake in our cities, communities and everyday lives. Schalk's book Feminist Futures: Materialisms, Activisms, Dialogues, Pedagogies, Projections traces practical tools and theoretical dimensions, as well as temporalities, histories, events, durations - and futures - of feminist practices.
This event is free and open to the general public. The lecture is organized by MFA Art and Public Space (MAPS) & KHiO Art and Craft Department.
Meike Schalk is associate professor of Urban Studies and Urban Theory and docent of Architecture at KTH School of Architecture. She is head of research education in Architecture, and Art, Technology and Design and, since 2015, director of the strong research environment Architecture in Effect. While her first discipline is Architecture, she holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Aesthetics of Landscape Architecture from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, 2007. Her research on architecture and urban questions combines critical inquiry into issues of sustainability, democracy and participation in urban development processes with practice-led research methods. Schalk was co-founder of the feminist architecture teaching and research group FATALE, and is part of the research group and nonprofit association Action Archive (with Helena Mattsson and Sara Brolund de Carvalho). Schalk is also an editor for the culture periodical SITE. Her recent publication is Feminist Futures: Materialisms, Activisms, Dialogues, Pedagogies, Projections, co-edited with Thérèse Kristiansson and Ramia Mazé (2017).
