Open Forum: Artist Talk: Merlin Carpenter
We invite you to a artist talk by the artist Merlin Carpenter (UK).
Carpenter counterposes value to what exists outside of it—a dream, an imaginary, what he describes as a “trance” or the location of revolutionary thought and desires. His paintings and installations are often constructed around the discrepancy between what a piece appears to be and how it behaves in relation to the structures that legitimate its appearance. Working within the framework of galleries and institutions, his work casts doubt on current systems of cultural reception and consumption.
Open Forum is a student run initiative from the Academy of Fine Art in Oslo. Open Forum seeks to create a meaningful exchange of ideas and a dynamic space for dialogue and debate between art students, artists and others. The talks are structured around different topics, from those closer to artistic and curatorial practices to other of social and political relevance.
