Avgang 2023: to the sides of this body

to the sides of this body is a dance duet made by Emilie Marie Karlsen and Marlene Bonnesen.

The springboard for this collaboration was a common and sincere interest in working from a corporal and skill-based point of view. By using “waste material” that wasn’t meant to be looked at for potential usage; personal video-recorded dances, self-made melodies, and notes from the past year, the attempt has been to let the questions and concepts appear throughout the process. Eventually, the matter of the work has unfolded, and it sheds light on solidity, craftswomenship and what we are capable of when we serve and lean into one another. to the sides of this body invites the observer into a physically straight-forward structure where vague voices, musical landscapes and bodies create an intricate, yet simple, working mosaic.
