Artist Talk: Tamar Guimaraes
Tamar Guimaraes work draws from film and literature, oral history and popular culture finding its expression in process-based and collaborative formats.
Guimaraes often work with actors alongside non-actors in semi-fictional films exploring socio- political dynamics. Another, more documentary thread of her work delves into states of rapture and their intersection with the nation state within hybrid religious practice in rural and urban Brazil.
Guimaraes will present a selection of works of the last 12 years, discussing SOAP in greater detail. SOAP is an ongoing series she startes shooting in 200 and it imagines what would be involved in creating a telenovela which could infiltrate the far right in Bolsonaro's Brazil. It presents a group of fictional, idealistic left-wingers who want to join forces to break into the worlds of right-wing propaganda.
