Art and Craft lectures: Marion Hohlfeldt
Creative approaches to public space. Research in the open.
During the last decades, artistic research has gained significant ground in most Western Countries. The construction of a European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and the adoption of a common system based on three cycles, has led to structural reforms across the European Higher Arts Education sector, including universities. The present conference proposes current methodologies discussed in France and presents the newly founded Graduate School for Creative approaches to public space at Rennes university. This new type of School is thought as an incubator that will ground its research and teaching in civil society. Bringing together local and international actors and putting creativity at its heart, it invites students to participate in dynamic, action-based learning focusing on the urban environment, in a city and in a region that are actively working to reclaim public space for social, artistic, and political creativity. It is designed to become an incubator for research in action, project-grounded and in the open. These aspects will be presented and discussed during the conference.
Marion Hohlfeldt is senior lecturer at Rennes 2 University, France. Head of the research program Art and Politics of the research lab PTAC Praxis and Theories of Contemporary Art, she is widely published. Amongst her recent publications: Faire la Cité, Brussels, La Lettre volée, 2016.
