Through an internship in the professional field of theatre or an exchange at one of the school’s partner institutions, you will learn to develop your craft and conduct research within a professional or academic environment, or alternatively, learn from other academic environments. Studying abroad as part of this degree program will provide you with the opportunity to gain new academic perspectives, establish an international network, return with heightened independence and motivation, improve your language skills, and discover a new culture. The course aims to facilitate a dialogue between you and the professional and international field of theatre, providing valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth.

The course’s learning outcomes

Upon completing the course, you shall be able to:

  • Reflect on your own and others' artistic practice, projects, and master's work during stays outside the school
  • Communicate about professional issues in your field
  • Analyse and critically relate to various sources of information and use them to structure and formulate academic reasoning
  • Relate to material from artistic development work and research
  • Demonstrate insight into and critically relate to professional ethical norms and issues
  • Gain new academic perspectives, establish an international network, return motivated and independent, improve your language skills, and discover a new culture through studying abroad as part of the degree

Teaching and learning methods

The student can choose different entrances to this work, and in this semester, you can choose from the following:

Exchange (full semester) (30 credits):

Arrangements are being made for students at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts to be able to exchange to another educational institution during their studies. Normally, this is the 3rd semester of the master's programme, but exceptions can be made when appropriate.

There are various networks that enable exchange, and more information about this can be found on the KHIOS website under EXCHANGE.

Internship and/or elective courses/partial exchange - individually or compositely (30 credits): Internship

You are responsible for contacting the theatre/cultural institutions for internship, which must be approved by the teacher/Dean. In special cases, the school can assist in finding a partner for internship or relevant and current collaborations. Internships may qualify for scholarships.

Electives/ partial exchanges:

In this semester, the student is given the opportunity to combine both practice and elective courses if this is within the learning objectives and the resources that are available at any given time, for example join a production with students from other schools. Further advise will be provided.

Assessment

The assessment process for this semester involves you reflecting on your own and others' artistic practice, projects, and master's work during your time outside of school. You will be expected to communicate about professional issues in their field, analyse and relate critically to various sources of information, and use these to structure and formulate academic reasoning.

Additionally, you should be able to relate to material from artistic development work and research and have insight into and relate critically to professional ethical norms and issues. The course will conclude with a common arena (Master Forum) where master's students can discuss ideas and thoughts about your own and others' master's work, as well as to discuss artistic issues. If you go on exchange, a transcript of records will document the results.
