Brief course description

The course focuses on issues related to starting and producing projects in public space. Thematically, it deals with and discusses projects that use the city, public space and the public sphere as places for artistic production. The goal of the course is to be productive and discursive; the student is encouraged to work in relation to his/her own area of interest within the field of art and public space. Practice in the subject area provides a platform for the student’s later projects.

The course’s learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student will:

  • have insight into different types of artistic production that relate to various public situations
  • have acquired skills necessary for producing a smaller project in public space
  • have acquired competence necessary for being able to plan and organize a smaller art project in public space

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures, independent work/self-chosen artistic project, presentations, discussions, excursions, group work and practical workshops

Most of the teaching is group-based.

Coursework requirements:

The student must actively participate in discussions and complete and submit all written and practical assignments and/or presentations. There is an 80 percent attendance requirement for all organized teaching.

Assessment

Coursework requirements must be met. The course is evaluated on the basis of the student’s presentation of his/her own work in a plenary session.

The course is graded as pass/fail.
